Leptokarya

Leptokarya is one of the most well-known seaside resorts of Pieria. Its name has its roots in a plant similar to the hazel tree. During your vacations you can visit Saint Nikola’s Orthodox church, the central village's square and also be part of popular greek night life,

History

Leptokarya was an extention of Ancient city called Livithra. It is a tradition place which connects its name with the ancient legendary god Orpheus. In accordance with mythology that city was damaged when watercourse "Sis" flooded and demolished public walls, houses and churches. It also worth to visiting the Monastery of Panagia Kanaliotissa (11th century), and the Churches of Agia Triada and Agia Fotini in the old village.

 

Clima

Its physical proximity with Olympus mountain makes the clima of Leptokarya special. During winter one can enjoy sunny days while in summer the temperature during nights is tolerable.

 

Food and nightlife

Leptokarya has nothing less than any Greek summer seaside place in terms of food and nightlife. Furthermore it attracts tourists of all ages from all over the world. By the sea one can find fish taverns, restaurants, cafe, beach bars, patisseries. The central square is over crowded especially during summer months and alongside the boardwalk one can find restaurants, fast foods, bars, cafe, super markets as well as tourist shops for souvenirs, cloths, jewelry and other. The shops are open throughout the day and close late at night even on Sundays. As far as nightlife is concerned, nights are really long with exciting parties.
